Some Holiday Cheer to Tide you over
(Can you spy Ebenezer Scrooge in the "Painting" in the back?)
HOLIDAY POEMS
BY JENNIFER MILLS
Holiday Stew - By Jennifer Mills
The Holiday Stew Simmers in a crock
Pot,
It's for good boys and girls who bad they
were not,
Plums and candy canes in the jolly stew,
It stews for me and stews for you.
Every one take a taste,
And spread Holiday Joy all over the
place
The Holiday stew is part of a complete
diet
Everyone who loves Christmas come
and Try it!
The Holiday strew is not in the Joy Of
Cooking,
The recipe is in your heart, that is where
you should be looking.
Holiday Pass Port - By Jennifer Mills
The Holiday Passport is Easy to obtain,
It lets you travel on the Christmas train.
Travel to Holiday Land where the streets
are paved in holly,
And when you go through Customs,
everyone is Jolly.
You can get a Visa and stay all year,
Because Joy and Love and Peace and
Joy are all you need to stay here. (In
Holiday Land)

I ache for...
"I'm not sure what's brought about this clarifying moment of divulgence, but I suspect that Advent has something to do with it. Whatever your belief (or lack of) in God, Jesus, or Any Of His Other Pals, I think the one thing we can all agree upon (aside from the incontestable awesomeness of The Arcade Fire) is that this world is not as it should be. It longs, it aches, it groans for reconciliation, for wrongs to be righted. For justice. And for peace, though the semantics that word possesses are a mere shadow of its weighty meaning." - LD

Kauai cap from his travels
Salt and pepper stubble at 40

Blares Zombie by the Cranberries through his iPod touch
Casually slipping it out of the convenient side pocket of his messenger bag

Make-up and Make-believe
Have you ever felt tears forming right behind your eyes?
Have you ever cried, then re-applied your "face" trying to move on with your day, but still felt like there were salty tracks showing on your cheeks?
I cried today. And even though it was out of joy, there is something sobering about tears.
I also spent some time in confession today - not with a priest, and not about sin - rather about truth. Speaking these truths also brought me to a very somber place. This also resulted in some small joy - still not quite the kind you might think.
There are surely times for dancing and singing, but sometimes it is best to speak truth, be quiet, or let the flood gates open wide.

Stories from the Subway
a) This morning I saw a mom with her little kid in my neighbor hood subway station. I live in a very gentrified, verging on suburban, neighborhood but this mom had a little trick up her sleeve. Despite her corduroy pants, brown boots, and anne taylor outerwear she fully rocked the sweetest Mohawk that I'd seen in a while.
It wasn't out of control or unseemly, it was properly spiked without unnecessary amounts of glue or goop. It was properly highlighted, not Clorox-ed. All I gotta say is: way-to-go mom! (I hope that this was the result of a dare with her small son.)
b) There was this guy sitting with a blank look on his face. A simple man I guessed. with a bold sans-serif message on his ball-cap: "UNCUT".
I found this to be hilarious - not 100% sure why.
c) Custom boots of red-brown leather. Laced up high - higher on one side. It was awesome. I wanted to ask the asymmetrical man if the higher boot was heavier or if they balanced the weight for him, but I held my tongue.
d) A woman shook a tree an frantically, and gleefully collected the falling seeds (or pods) to the befuddlement of a NYC street sweeping technician. (see additional image below)

Cast Iron Proof
If any entity is to be trusted in this age, it may be postal workers. Sure, sometimes they get a bad rap for bending photographs, for not being as prompt as the 'electronic-mail', or (in some instances) confiscating "goodies" like Bibles or drugs - but what about the guy who drew a map on his envelope in England? They TOTALLY delivered it for him! And the Jolly Post Man? Woah, what a guy! Fearless! It is even said by some that from time to time even Santa will pre-ship some items to level out his work load.
My point is this...
My friend, Erik, has been M.I.A. roaming the world for a year - while also abandoning his internet presence. For all I knew he had been trampled by wild horses in Australia! (Since one of his goals was to return to his cow-boy roots.) But today I found a letter, stuck between some other parcels with a stamp and post mark that could only mean 1 thing: my dear friend from the Czech Republic was ALIVE! (...or at least had recently been so...)
Alive indeed and snarky as ever! Per his request I hereby pass along his message of "hi" to all, and thank the Lord for travel mercies imparted to this child (although I am still not sure exactly where he is residing - there was no return address.)

Time... is on my side.
I always wear leather band watches because the metal ones hurt my wrists. Pictured above is a nice little number from Fendi called the Mother of Pearl time piece (available NOW on gilt!)
Last year I purchased a replacement for my old stand-by watch (pictured above, which I had been wearing since 2004 - it was showing it's wear) by Fossil, when I saw THIS beauty at the de Young museum shop in San Francisco...
The de Young is the only U.S. retailer that carries these Opex watches, made in Paris. Mine is called Cuir noir, part of the Dolce Vita collection, however they have a lot of other sexy slims on their website.
