Fashionomics for the Stylistically Bankrupt
I have been doing a lot of thinking about clothing these days....
My name is bonnieKate and I like nice things. (welcome.)
...
I had a rant here that I have edited out because I think that the following items resonate the soul of what I was getting at.
...
...
...
"In China, girls in wealthy families would have their feet broken and tightly bound so that they grew to have tiny "lotus" feet. These were thought to be very fashionable since the women who had them were unable to survive without the help of servants."
And in the immortal words of Valentino: "I love beauty, it's not my fault"

Glass and Light, and Lines and...
Liza Cucco, an avid map user and installation artist, I've continued to exhibit her work over the years and promote it when possible. Of the artists I currently know, I think I enjoy her work in my top 5.I will let her work speak for it's self. Check in on her site.

Represent! A.S.
I am currently representing a few young artists, including Adam Sjoberg.Adam has been taking my advice ever since I met him, and has come a long way from the first exhibit we worked on together in 2006. He currently freelances as a photographer, and manages the blog "Loose Luggage".
Award winning for his clothing designs, his projects remain interesting and various, maturing quickly with experience!
In 2008 Adam exhibited in New York City benefiting Love146.

Here are the Models and staff for the Redline runway show.

Classic Sjoberg candid.

The Day The Music DIY'D
I am happy to report having finished a hand made digi-pack. I wasn't sure I would be making any more of these (as per an earlier post by a similar name) due to the tenancy toward pure digital fun. Never the less I had a great deal of fun coming up with the designs for this hand made beauty - details to be filled in later once the recipient has recieved this jem!
It Could Be Sweet
While googling the "Sartorialist", to peruse the success of his blog, I noticed how conveniently his link came up with indexed links by month listed below. In an attempt to see how google-able my blog is I came across this delightful page: Pure Fun TM. Naturally confectioned candy with a frighteningly similar name to my blog. I can live with that, given that it has one of my favorite things within it's list of offerings: Cotton Candy!
As it stood my "good Pure fun" was all the way on page 2! And it wasn't the main page, but an older post. so I'm going to do my darnedest to raise the bar with circulation and interest-value with more frequent posts, more musings, and more drawings. I hope you all continue to enjoy and tell your friends, because it's no FUN to be good and be all alone.

In The Last Week
Within the last 7 days I rented a car, (which took me trying out 3 locations before someone finally gave me a minivan,) drove to Montreal, Canada, (braving the Adirondacks, at night, alone wasn't the most brilliant idea I've ever had - the deers and squirrels aren't afraid of cars) drove back in time to grab a bite to eat at the Star Dust diner, (one of the more popular off-Broadway venues, since the performers serve you food!) before seeing a show at the Gershwin Theatre, attended a wedding, and wrapped up a mix I had been making (including customized packaging).
It's no wonder that I forgot about St. Patty's Day! ...This is a good pace for me, but I think I need a nap, or at least some more iron in my diet.

Other People's Stuff is Fun too!

The Printed Blog's photo editor Laurel Dailey (pictured above), is a good friend and a great photographic eye. She is also known for her sharp wit, and command of creative rhetoric.

Originally noted for her grasp on the use of lighting her sense of style and impeccable taste inevitably has brought her to a editorial level of working. Keep an eye on HER blog for lots of fun stuff via my new link list. >>>>

Here is a shot she took of me last fall. Styling by Dawn West.

Cruising for a Bruising
Have you ever had a song stuck in your head, or something that you had to tell someone and you just can't remember the details to put it all together in your mind? This happens to me often. Most recently and most frustratingly with the Gucci image you see here. (Click on image for further comentary by an outside source.)I could remember seeing an add with a girl in a yellow pleated dress with some kind of strap or non-sleeve - leaning on a man by a small stone wall - probably by the ocean - looking very 1060s and Italian. That was the description I circulated to my fashionista gal pals, and for weeks none of us seemed any closer to a picture of what the image came from.

Finally, just as I thought it was going to drive me CRAZY I got to my last back issue Fashion Mag from 2008, in a very large pile that I had gone through twice, and there she was. I almost thought I was REALLY loosing it when I first glanced at the dress in black and red. Was I color blind? But I was determined once I saw it in the other color way to keep looking.
Now that I found this dress I feel a little disappointed. I thought that discovering who made it and where I had seen it, that I would feel more fulfilled. Well, at least I still have the puzzle of that song in my head to figure out. You know, the one that you hear a snipit of on any given Saturday night, but the lyrics are just slightly unintelligible? I believe "there is an app for that" now... Just another reason to invest in Apple. :)

Recessionistamos!
Do you have the guts to be the Glitterati of the recession?
What does it take to continue with your plan to conspicuously or ostentatiously attend fashionable events when you find yourself on little-to-nothing budgets? From the "Celeb-utantes" to the "Ladies that lunch", young and old of the Fashionable, we have all been feeling the financial squeeze. Here are some ways to creatively keep up with the Jones' (or for the Jones' who recently lost it all on Wall Street.)
For those that want to stay true to a label, there is Gilt Group to get the most out of exclusive sample sales. Also try using Shop Style to compare what is out there at your e-fingers. If you are willing to think out of the box check out Etsy for hand made apparel and jewelry.
So now that you have something new, keeping you from feeling blue about your something-borrowed, you're about to head out the door to boost your spirits with a night out on the town, but you are starting to LOOK like the great depression? Check out LifeBooker for deals on grooming.
Also consider saving TIME and MONEY by ordering groceries to be delivered, while you pull in some extra jobs from your home office, at Freshdirect. It's cheaper than eating out, and they have meals that are ready to heat (for when you gotta go, but you gotta eat!)
After you've had your cup o soup at home, if you need a libation take a look at My Open Bar before spending $18 on a cocktail, or Free NYC for other FREE diversions.
Over all - consider your options in each situation. Plan ahead, and good luck out there!
PS
Spring is on it's way, I suggest making a big to-do about it and inviting friends to picnic together, pot-luck style, as soon as the cold front breaks again! What could be better than being seen in your fabulous hand made dudds and discount highlights for all of central park to see? If you can't wait, snuggle up together in your studio apartment for an indoor family style meal
- no need to be ashamed of the tight quarters when you are having fun together for a fraction of the cost of going out! Plus cooking for a friend will make them feel like a Million Bucks!
