Jesus Christ = the Anti-Pirate

"Take what you can, give nothing back" - Jack Sparrow

"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.' But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; "..." love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,"
- Jesus Christ, quoted in Matthew 5 (NASB translation)

I went to a discussion group/book club last night. The topic at hand came from some writings on Love by Saint Augustine, or "Augustin" (however you like to pronounce it...)

~I've decided to edit my original text down to the following inspiration.~

"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." - Jesus Christ, quoted in John 15 (NIV translation)

"Give Your Self Away" - U2

"Thank you for the cross
Thank you for the cross
Thank you for the cross, my friend
Thank you for the cross
Thank you for the cross
Thank you for the cross, my friend
Thank you for the cross
Thank you for the cross
Thank you for the cross, my friend"

-contemporary Christian Worship chorus

  1. Last night I was researching for a Sunday School class and the commentator said that Hosea "appropriated" the husband/wife imagery for use to explain to the Israelites how they had committed adultery on their true God Yahweh with Baal. Prior to the Baal/Asherah fertility cults that wrecked the Israelites theocracy cum Monarchy (though they could have done a number on their cult without outside influences) there was no prolific husband/wife imagery in the Israelite faith. It was all based in Exodus delivery among other things.
Just thought you would find that interesting.
    m out.

  2. yeah - I used to really idolize Hosea. I though I was called to marry a man-whore to really show God's love. (no joke!) It's taken me a long time to understand his story, and even now... it is an interesting one.
