...of the Day: Erick Sierra

Recently published in Savour Magazine - illuminating the experience of his grandmother's cooking, and in Wunderkammer Magazine - reviewing a friend's book... "Erick Sierra is a lecturer and doctoral candidate in contemporary literature at Rutgers University. ..."
Look out for this man's imminent literary commentary and speaking engagements. I believe he has something to tell us all, but more importantly he has a great WAY to tell us those things.
FB Freakout
I just connected with a college friend from "back in the day". Here is a site she is working on: http://www.holybejeez.us/ It is good to see people being active and following through with their passions! Keep up the good deeds!

Artist Of (My Life?) Eyvind Earl
Ok, so one of my all-time go-to artist, who makes me feel at home, is also the creative mind behind the popular Disney flick Sleeping Beauty. Here is what someone else had to say about the man.
I just like how even though his landscapes are obviously a bit exaggerated, I still feel like I know the exact hill he is capturing from the rolling central coast.
The Wait List
Because when you are on a Wait List - it isn't like you are being told "no"...you're just being asked "hang on the line a minute?"
Move over Nicholson. Move over Freeman. You are about to experience the Wait List!
I know, I know...How could anything possibly be more uplifting than the Rob Reiner flick about 2 men who will, at some point, die - just like we are all doomed to one day? I mean really!?
Sure sometimes we are "placed on hold" with dreams that will eventually hang up on us, but what if it's only that all the other lines are ringing and the wish granting operator just needs a moment to sort out which line goes to which hole?
I could be gloomy about not getting an immediate "YES, I'll Connect You!" from that operator in the sky, but I choose to hold the line.

"Jud. 4-5"
Inspired by the text of Judges chapters 4 and 5 in the Holy Bible, and supplemental material by Tim Keller - I drew a sketch that grew into this. I posted the sketch on gPf a while ago and a friend commissioned a larger version of the drawing.I didn't want it to be just a reproduction/enlargement, so I took the opportunity to expand the work into something distinct. The eye charecter is based on traditional catholic symbolism for the trinity, god, and eternity - a minimal icon for the God that we sometimes have a hard time identifying.
I hope you enjoy, and I hope to make more soon!

VP Cries Wolf, "Oink"
257 confirmed flu patience is nothing to scoff at, however the widespread concern and the increasing challenge to find hand-sanitizer strikes me as edging on fear mongering. Of course, I want all New Yorkers, and fellow human beings to be safe from sickness, but let's have some perspective!ALL confirmed patients in New York have reportedly been "feeling better" according to a statement given by our dear Bloomberg. If you're interested in some truly devastating pandemic events - read here for some real plague history! And if that doesn't wet your apetite for death and horror - here are some other causes of death that may put a new view on the situation: Abortion - 42 mil world wide per year, 115,000 per DAY! In the US alone its 3,700/day. Or how about Aids, Cancer...
Don't get me wrong! Be smart! Be clean! Take care of your bodies! Just don't bombard people with fear making them believe they are on some kind of mobile petrie dish getting on the train each morning.
What I would REALLY like to see is the US helping out Mexico with their health care so that no more people will die in their hospitals (since our patients seem to be fairing this storm a little better) in particular because we are withholding revenue from them by discouraging vacationing there during this "epidemic".
You decide what you want to think. I'm going to try and stay healthy as best I can, but I refuse to live in fear of being in public, or through ethnic profiling.
