257 confirmed flu patience is nothing to scoff at, however the widespread concern and the increasing challenge to find hand-sanitizer strikes me as edging on fear mongering. Of course, I want all New Yorkers, and fellow human beings to be safe from sickness, but let's have some perspective!
ALL confirmed patients in New York have reportedly been "feeling better" according to a statement given by our dear Bloomberg. If you're interested in some truly devastating pandemic events - read here for some real plague history! And if that doesn't wet your apetite for death and horror - here are some other causes of death that may put a new view on the situation: Abortion - 42 mil world wide per year, 115,000 per DAY! In the US alone its 3,700/day. Or how about Aids, Cancer...
Don't get me wrong! Be smart! Be clean! Take care of your bodies! Just don't bombard people with fear making them believe they are on some kind of mobile petrie dish getting on the train each morning.
What I would REALLY like to see is the US helping out Mexico with their health care so that no more people will die in their hospitals (since our patients seem to be fairing this storm a little better) in particular because we are withholding revenue from them by discouraging vacationing there during this "epidemic".
You decide what you want to think. I'm going to try and stay healthy as best I can, but I refuse to live in fear of being in public, or through ethnic profiling.
