If we could all have as much fun as ZEVS!
ZEVS (pronounced "Zeus") is an artist dealing in new terms of graffiti over the last 10 years. Namely, the following practices:"Proper" graffiti (using high pressure to remove images out of existing graffiti)
Visual kidnapping (editing images out of advertising, holing them ransom)
...and using washable children's paints to give an effect to prominant label's logos that they are "liquidating" by dripping the paint underneath them, or recreating the logo all together, as in his recent ARMANI/CHANEL instance.
Enjoy one of the few punk artists of our time, who is actually cleaning things up a bit. :)
Heard in New York City...
"...That's when we better start making babies, otherwise I'm going to shoot myself! I mean what else is there to do in that town?"
- Aug 25th, 2009, DMV.
"...You don't know about that? I've been waiting my whole life for that!" (In reference to the usage of a Target registry gun)
- Aug 22, 2009, cheese and wine establishment.

Today Things
Things that caught my eye this morning:

The Islands at the Bell House
I saw in the New Yorker that Welcome Wagon was going to be playing at Bell House - so I hopped on their site and found that the Islands are playing tonight, W00T!
Also in the New Yorker, Restaurant Belcourt looks like a sweet little place, lets hope this "table for two" notoriety doesn't ruin it's charm.
For you on the other coast, here is a new San Francisco treat! Japan's fashion and entertainment center New People has arrived. From Harajuku to YOU - check it out.
Finally, for those of you who have been sweating it out in this heat - dont worry! Flannel and wool will be back before you can say "Pendleton"...

A fast forthcoming celebration...
I have been meditating on what is important and what I want from this year. Here are the disjointed steps I am taking in preparation for feliz cumpleaños a mi...
I have changed my face book info settings to "view birth date and month" not year.
I am commissioning my favorite hair stylist to give me a new look and a photographer to document it.
I also plan on listening primarily to the Kings of Convenience, audio books, and podcasts for the next 12 months.
Keep reading books that are recommended, books that come out, and the New Yorker.
Look for more ways to serve my neighbors.
Try to use more annunciation reflective of Wynona Rider's grown-up Jo March or (sparingly) of Kathryn Hepburn's Tracy Lord. (ie from exasperating phrases like "I'm hopelessly flawed" and "I'm such an unholy mess of a girl".)
Lastly, but most important, I plan on focusing more on my sphere of influence and less on my sphere of concern.
(image by M.C. Escher who once said “I want to delight in the smallest of things, a bit of moss 2cm in diameter on a little piece of rock, and I want to try here what I have been wishing for so long, namely to copy these tiniest bits of nothing as accurately as possible just to realize how great they are.”)
Mid-twenties promise to be a transcendent time of life.

"I love how some people try and sneak into COOL places..." - L.C.
I've known people who spend their energy on getting into the Oscars, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Shows, Wicked, and a variety of other VIP venues, events, and what-have-you. I, on the other hand, treasure the thought of getting into Elite Clubs! (And I ain't talkin' about a night at the Roxbury!)
Most exclusive New York Clubs began with only gentlemen members, and only recently allow female members. That being said, you still need a lot of luck, and even better credentials or specialization to get past the door of many.
I happened to luck out a couple years ago with a visit to the New York Explorer's Club. This did not disappoint - however I will have to dedicate a post to that at another time. (In the mean time, if you are interested, I suggest starting out by going to a Monday night lecture.)
I am currently working on getting an invitation to enter the gates of the New York Yacht Club. Here is a glimpse at why my heart quickens at the thought...
